Student Leadership
Junior Section (JS)
Student leadership in the Junior Section focuses on building early responsibility, teamwork, and confidence through age-appropriate roles. Leadership opportunities include Form Captains, Sports Captains and Vice Captains (Years III–VI), and House Captains (Year VI).
In these roles, students support the day-to-day functioning of their classes and activities. Form Captains help maintain organisation within the classroom, assist teachers, and act as a link between students and staff. Sports Captains lead warm-ups, encourage participation, and promote teamwork and fair play. House Captains take on a more visible role, helping to organise House events, motivate participation, and build House spirit.
Junior leaders influence their peers by setting a positive example—demonstrating kindness, responsibility, and respect. Their role is not authoritative but supportive: they help include others, encourage participation, and contribute to a positive classroom and school environment. Commitments at this level include consistency in behaviour, willingness to help, and active participation in school and House activities. Leadership in JS lays the foundation for future roles by emphasising that leadership is rooted in service and everyday actions.
Middle Section (MS)
In the Middle Section, student leadership expands to include greater responsibility, visibility, and student voice. Roles include Form and Sports Captains and Vice Captains (Years VII–IX), House Captains and Deputies (Year IX), Middle Section Prefects, and Praeposters, with twelve Praeposters serving under the Head Boy and Head Girl.
Students in these roles take on more structured responsibilities. Form and Sports Captains continue to support organisation and team spirit, while House Captains and Deputies lead House events, coordinate participation, and mentor younger students. Prefects play a broader role across the section, assisting with school routines, supporting events, and acting as role models within the student body. Praeposters work closely with the Head Boy and Head Girl, supporting student leadership initiatives and helping to foster a positive and responsible school community.
Middle Section leaders influence school life by representing their peers’ views, contributing to a culture of respect and collaboration, and supporting communication between students and staff. With elements of nomination and student voting in the selection process, leadership at this stage begins to reflect both peer confidence and staff judgment.
The commitment required increases, with expectations around reliability, behaviour, and active involvement in school life. Students are expected to balance leadership responsibilities with academics, demonstrate integrity, and contribute meaningfully to both co-curricular and community initiate.
College Section (CS)
Student leadership in the College Section is structured and comprehensive, recognising both responsibility and service at the highest level. The Prefect Body includes College Prefects (Navy Blue Gowns), Praeposters (Navy Blue Gowns – Maroon Trim), House Captains and Deputies (Navy Blue Gowns – House Trim), and the Head Boy and Head Girl with Deputies (Maroon Gowns).
Each role carries distinct responsibilities. Prefects support the smooth running of the school, assist with events, and uphold discipline and school values. Praeposters take on additional responsibility within the prefect body, often coordinating initiatives and supporting younger prefects. House Captains and Deputies lead their Houses, organise competitions and events, and build House identity and participation. The Head Boy and Head Girl, along with their deputies, represent the student body at the highest level, working closely with senior leadership and leading key school initiatives.
The structure reflects a Higher and Lower Council system, enabling collaboration between senior leaders and the wider prefect body. Student leaders influence school life through formal representation, organising events, leading initiatives, and contributing to decision-making processes. Their role includes amplifying student voice while maintaining alignment with school values.
The commitment at this level is significant. Students are expected to demonstrate integrity, maturity, and accountability, balance leadership with academic demands, and contribute consistently to school life. They are role models within and beyond the school, expected to lead with humility, responsibility, and a strong sense of service.
