The Nursery ‘Pretend Sleepover’, held over two days (23rd–24th April), was a heartwarming experience that thoughtfully blended fun, learning, and a touch of independence for our young learners. As one of the most endearing events in the Nursery calendar, it provided a gentle and engaging way for children to explore the concepts of day and night while reinforcing essential bedtime and morning routines.
Children arrived with great excitement, carrying their ‘overnighter’ bags filled with pyjamas, slippers, small pillows, and cherished cuddly toys. The music room was transformed into a cosy sleeping space—complete with dimmed lights, soft bedding, and calming bedtime stories—creating a peaceful environment that encouraged the children to ease into the idea of preparing for sleep in a safe and familiar setting.
As part of the experience, children were encouraged to carry out simple self-care tasks such as changing into their pyjamas, tidying up, and settling down for rest. A gentle bell signaled ‘morning’, after which the children followed a familiar routine of washing up and changing. This practical element of the sleepover helped nurture a sense of responsibility and supported the development of healthy hygiene habits.
The pretend morning concluded with a wholesome buffet breakfast that included fresh fruit, buns, butter, bread, jam, omelette, juice—and the clear favourite: warm pancakes drizzled with maple syrup.
This memorable experience offered a meaningful opportunity for children to develop independence, understand daily routines, differentiate between day and night, and adopt healthy habits – all within the comfort of a playful, nurturing environment.
