Earth Day Celebrations!

Kindergarten

Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22nd to demonstrate support and raise awareness about the importance of environmental protection.

Earlier in the week, students of all four year groups discussed the environmental issues facing the Earth and how they as children could help the Earth. In Art, children made a variety of posters and models using recycled paper, a very interesting one being a paper palm holding a paper globe – signifying that Earth is literally in human hands.

Year I celebrated Earth Day with a creative and entertaining assembly presentation, encouraging  the audience to recognise the importance of looking after mother Earth , and demonstrating how positive actions can make a big impact.

The children sang, danced, role played and performed poetry as they highlighted the importance of trees, the dangers of extinction and pollution under the sea. They pledged to save the Earth by saving water, conserving other sources of energy and not polluting the planet by following the rule of reuse, reduce and recycle. Interesting headgear, accessories and musical instruments, made from recycled material by the children, provided colour to the performances.

The assembly concluded with  Mrs. Farooq addressing the gathering, appreciating the hard work and creativity shown by the children and teachers of Year I. She reiterated the message of Earth Day, by explaining that this is the only Earth that we have and so we must  take good care of it. She asked a few children to share what message they had taken from the assembly and requested all the children to be ‘ambassadors’ and share these messages at home.

The children returned to their classes motivated to be good caretakers of their planet.
