Over the past four weeks, our Year VI students have engaged enthusiastically in an after-school project that combined imagination, teamwork, and practical learning. Tasked with designing sustainable cities using recycled materials, they created impressive models while developing important skills for the future.
The project began with an inspiring talk by Mrs. Dure Sameen Akhund on the United Nations’ Sustainability Goals, encouraging students to think critically about responsible living. In their Citizenship classes, they explored the five key elements of a sustainable city, watched model-making tutorials, and carefully planned their own eco-friendly designs.
Every Monday and Wednesday, the Junior Section buzzed with energy as Year VI students stayed after school, working within their Houses under the guidance of their House Mistresses and teachers. Through collaboration, task organisation, and teamwork, they balanced independent decision-making with collective creativity, strengthening House spirit throughout.
Throughout the project, students gained a deeper understanding of how sustainable practices—such as recycling, green energy use, and thoughtful urban planning—can make a lasting difference. They learned how their choices can help build greener, more sustainable communities
The Sustainable City Project highlighted the students’ creativity and commitment to caring for the environment. It gave them practical skills and a deeper understanding of how they can make a difference. Parents enjoyed seeing their children’s work during Awards Day, celebrating their achievements together.
