JS ICT Days 2023

Junior

17 May 2023

In an era dominated by technology, the significance of recognizing and fostering ICT skills among students cannot be overstated.

On the 17th and 18th of May, 2023, the Junior Section held its onsite ‘ICT Days’ after a gap of two years, enabling children to experience technology in a fun and interactive way by making them participate in a variety of  experiential learning activities.

On Day 1, students of Year VI got a chance to showcase their ICT Scratch projects to the rest of the Junior Section. To master ICT related vocabulary, children of Years III, IV and V enjoyed sessions of word games like hangman, word searches, word scrambles, guess the word etc. These were conducted by three sections of Year VI. The remaining two sections of Year VI used a variety of role play scenarios, based on digital citizenship, netiquette and cyber safety. Two sections of Year VI shared their Scratch games and cyber-bullying stories with Year III, IV and V children who enjoyed the opportunity to explore Scratch and use the  essential elements of coding and Computer Science.

On Day 2, the children of class V shared their work with the class IV children. They coached the class IV children on ICT topics which included ‘Online safety’, ‘How computer programs are constructed’, ‘Search engines’, etc. For this they made use of the presentations created collaboratively after researching on the internet. Another group of Year V children show-cased their programming projects. Class IV children tried out the different games on display, this generated a lot of motivation and excitement among children of both the year groups.

ICT Days were a great success, learning was active and visible and Junior Section children had fun exploring various areas and applications of ICT. Encouraging older students to teach younger ones by providing them with a structured platform was a very empowering experience for both and a wonderful way to promote peer learning, build community and make new friends.

Thank you to all those who contributed to make the ICT days a success!
