Making reading come alive is one of the most exciting ways to get our young learners to fall in love with reading and to build a strong reading culture in school.

The Kindergarten Section held its annual Reading Week, from 27th February – 1st March, 2024 with special events and activities to encourage reading and connect students, teachers and parents by celebrating their joy of reading.

Reading with Parents: During the week, the parents of the Kindergarten Section were invited to come and read stories with their children in school. This was a fun and unique experience for both the parents and children, encouraging them to use their imagination and creativity and discover the magic of reading as the stories unfolded before them. 

Classroom activities: Children participated in a variety of engaging and interesting activities, unique to their year group. Different genres of writing were explored, ranging from sequencing of sentences, to developing storytelling skills in creative writing in Urdu and English. Rebus writing added a playful twist to some intriguing sentences, while poetry writing inspired children to express their ideas and thoughts in a creative way. Adding some razzle dazzle to the occasion were the designing of personalised bookmarks, while interesting discussions about the children’s favourite books made for some relaxed and cosy Show and Tell sessions.

Read Alouds: Lively and interactive read aloud sessions, involving both the Kindergarten teachers and guest readers transported our eager listeners into the realms of imagination. Mrs.Taskeen Shah and Mrs. Ruby Haider, both part of  our extended KGS community, were invited  as guest readers to read aloud to the children in Urdu. These highly enjoyable and animated sessions not only engaged the children in conversation and thinking, but also helped them to connect with reading and books in Urdu with renewed enthusiasm.

Character Parade – A colourful display of children dressed up as their favourite characters, brought to a close another entertaining and well organised Reading Week.
