79th Independence Day Celebrations

Junior

The EY and Junior Sections celebrated Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with a lively and patriotic programme bringing together children, parents and teachers.

The celebrations began with a flag-hoisting ceremony in the outer field. Dressed in national and traditional regional attire, the children sang milli naghmay with the teachers’ choir, while Year VI students delivered speeches in Urdu and English on their hopes for Pakistan and their role in its progress. Year IV students, dressed in traditional regional clothes, added a colourful reflection of Pakistan’s rich cultural diversity. Mrs. Hussain, the Headmistress, reminded the children of their responsibility as the future leaders of Pakistan and encouraged them to contribute to the country’s progress. The Assembly ended with enthusiastic cries of “Pakistan Zindabad!”

Following the Assembly, Years V and VI reflected on the celebrations through a quick write-up in English. Throughout the week, Citizenship and Urdu activities encouraged children to express their pride in Pakistan and hopes for its future through creative posters and other activities. In their Art lessons, children explored the theme creatively, making a variety of green-and-white crafts, including rosettes, hats and origami birds.

During snack time, the children enjoyed a special treat of green-sprinkled doughnuts with white icing, adding a fun festive touch to the day.

The celebrations also featured a special literary session with award-winning author Marzieh Abbas. Years III and IV enjoyed an engaging read-aloud session, while Years V and VI explored the importance of sharing an authentic Pakistani voice with Western audiences, drawing on familiar cultural examples such as samosas and dupattas.

Together, the activities encouraged students to celebrate their heritage, value their Pakistani identity and reflect on their role as responsible citizens.
