R U OK? Day at the Early Years and  Junior Section

Kindergarten

The Early Years and Junior Section marked R U OK? Day with a joyful yet reflective programme designed to encourage kindness, connection, and awareness.

The day opened with a special morning assembly. Children arrived wearing bright yellow accessories — the colour of optimism, hope, and friendship. Calming music, yoga, breathing exercises, and joyful singing set the tone for a day centred on empathy and care. The Wellness Team shared a thoughtful message, along with a short video, to help children reflect on the importance of checking in on one another.

Across the school, activities brought the theme to life:

  • Smile Booths: Playful photo corners where children posed with cut-out signs reading “I asked R U OK?”.
  • Friendship Benches: Painted bright yellow and placed around the campus, these benches invited conversations and new connections.
  • Kindness Pebbles: Students decorated pebbles and arranged them into a colourful “kindness path” in the courtyards.
  • Compliment Wall: Years III–VI wrote heartfelt notes of appreciation for friends, while younger children expressed emotions through handmade emojis.

Adding depth to the initiative, a Toy Drive was launched in collaboration with Umeed Parr. The collected toys will support children undergoing cancer treatment — a reminder that kindness extends far beyond school walls.

In classrooms, the theme carried through lessons: “Conversation Bingo” in Language, “Feelings Charts” in Art, and Calm Corners in PSHE all gave students space to practise recognising emotions, expressing themselves, and supporting their peers.

At the heart of it all was a simple, lasting message:

  • Ask R U OK?
  • Listen with an open mind.
  • Encourage action.
  • Check in.

It was a day filled with smiles, reflection, and bright yellow energy — a reminder that conversations matter, and that kindness makes school a happier place for everyone.
