Co-curricular Activities
Strong emphasis is placed on activities outside the planned work in the
classroom. Students are encouraged to participate in all their years at KGS,
from the Kindergarten to the College Section. By so doing, they develop
individual talents and utilise their own initiative and organisational skills.
The Kindergarten Section creates from the earliest years an awareness of
individual, social and environmental issues. Activities include a
turtle-viewing excursion in association with the World Wildlife Fund’s attempts
to preserve the green turtle’s nesting sites on the beaches of Karachi.
Familiarity with computers, art, craft and music, as well as pets and other
animals are all an integral part of every child’s Kindergarten years. The
physical side is not neglected either and all children receive lessons in the
swimming pool on a regular basis.
In the Junior Section, a vibrant Scouts and Guides programme, regular PE and
aerobics, gymnastics, band practice, cooking and carpentry, class excursions and
a variety of charitable efforts are part of the colourful programme of
activities. A feature of this Section is that every child has a role in the
eagerly anticipated Annual Concert in December which is, by general agreement,
the best musical show in town!
As they gain in years and maturity, students in the Middle and College Sections
are encouraged to take more responsibility in organising some events
themselves. There is a wide variety of activities, ranging from the very
competitive House matches in sports of all kinds, athletics, rowing, debating,
drama, journalism, other cultural and recreational societies, supervised social
activities, supporting charitable causes, not to mention a few activities just
for fun. Students also take part in national and international competitions,
Students with leadership potential are designated Monitors, House Captains and
Prefects, with duties attached, starting in the Junior Section. They play a
valuable role in making links between the student body and the administration.
Students leaving KGS undoubtedly take with them many memories and experiences of
much besides academic work.
